From the founding of Jamestown to the time of Washington and Jefferson, every plantation owner made cider, drank cider, and bragged about his cider.
Fruit
PRISTINE, from Purdue, is a high-quality, early season apple. Fruit is round, bright-yellow, with a pleasant sweet-tart flavor. Excellent for fresh eating and applesauce. Ripens early in July, or just after Lodi. Tree is moderately spreading, somewhat twiggy in habit. Widely adaptable. Yellow Transparent is in its heritage. One of its great-grandparents may have been, in the opinion of Ed Fackler, a Russian cross of an apple and a hawthorn. It is a weak grower. One of the best tasting early apples.
