Fruit
OHIO NONPAREIL originated near Massillon, Stark County, Ohio, before 1850. This large dessert fruit is oblate in shape with a pale-yellow skin washed and striped pink and crimson. Sometimes it is nearly solid-crimson and has a red striped effect. The shape is sometimes lopsided. The creamy-white flesh is fine-grained and very juicy with a mild, aromatic, subacid flavor. It has a number of undesirable tree characteristics, particularly its slowness to begin bearing. It ripens in late August.
