Live Debate: the American neutrality act during WW2.Live Debate: the American neutrality act during WW2.
Join us for a heated debate on a country divided from the oldest CIO at UVA. Celebrating their 200th year the “Jefferson Literary and Debating Society” will be challenging whether the Neutrality acts that were created during the 1930’s should have been bent or broken to give aid to Europe. During the 1930s and 1940s The United States was divided on how to respond to the Axis of power consuming large portions of Europe and Asia. What do you think America should have done? You will have your chance to interact with the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society and ask questions or voice your opinions after the presentation of both the debate groups. We urge you to bring a pen and pad to write down your ideas, as any interruptions may lead to ejection from the debate. This debate will start promptly at 6.30pm, with snacks and cider available for purchase.

Sip cider and read in quiet camaraderie. No assigned reading, no obligations. Bring your own book of choice. This is a free social event hosted in our Orchard Room. We are excited to be Charlottesville's second chapter of Silent Book Club, an international organization bringing bibliophiles together. From the official website of Silent Book Club: "At Silent Book Club, there's no assigned reading. All readers are welcome—ebooks, audiobooks, textbooks, comic books... it's BYOBook. Our events are free and support local businesses. Friends and strangers gather at a set time and location, order food or drinks, share what they're reading, and settle in for an hour of silent, sustained reading. At the end of the hour, attendees can socialize—or not! We started Silent Book Club because reading with friends enriches our lives and makes us happy. We love hearing about what people are reading (often in their other book clubs) and we think it's important to put down our phones and be social."

Virginia Cider: A Scrumptious HistoryVirginia Cider: A Scrumptious History
We are excited to host a book signing and talk by Alistair Reece & J. Mark Stewart, on their newly released book: "Virginia Cider: A Scrumptious History"! Come meet and mingle with these local authors, as they launch their project. "When the adventurers aboard the Susan Constant, Discovery, and Godspeed stepped foot on Virginian soil they brought with them the traditional English love of cider. Required by statute to plant orchards, the apple played a central part in the development of the colony as its juice became the favored libation of every class of society. From the modest laborer to the table of Thomas Jefferson, cider was Virginia’s tipple of choice. More than 400 years later, the libation is enjoying a renaissance. Read about a new generation of makers re-introducing Virginians to their original craft beverage."
Tickets are not required for this event, and books will be available to purchase on site.
